The John Mathis Entrepreneurial Spirit Award

Inspiring Tomorrow’s Business Leaders

The John Mathis Entrepreneurial Spirit Award was established by One Degree Capital to celebrate and encourage the spirit of entrepreneurship in our nation’s youth.

The Award is open to graduating high school seniors who are entering their freshman year at an accredited, not-for-profit two- or four-year university, college or vocational/technical institute. Applicants must be actively engaged in running their own small business or employed by a small business for at least the past six months to be considered for this Award.

This non-renewable scholarship is valued at $2,000 and can be applied toward tuition and fees of a postsecondary school.

Students interested in applying for the Award must write a personal essay and provide three written references from teachers or school administrators along with proof of employment at a small business (either as an employee or owner) for the past six months.

Eligibility

Applicants must be high school seniors who are entering their freshmen year as a full-time student at an accredited, not-for-profit two- or four-year university, college or vocational/technical institute for the fall semester of the 2019-20 academic year. Applicants must also be the owner/operator of a small business or employed by a small business for at least the past 6 months from the date of the Award application.

Deadline

Applications must be received no later than midnight eastern time on April 30 2019.

Notifications

The award winner will be notified of their Award by May 15th.

Receiving Award

Finalists will receive their Award in the mail via check payable to the institution where they will be enrolled for the upcoming Fall semester (proof of enrollment required). Finalists can expect to receive Award by the end of July.
